Drew Rosener posed this question on Twitter.
Earlier in the day I wrote a tweet that basically said that success isn’t something that others deem you. Success is when you and those that rely on you, say that you’ve done enough. After that its all about your ego. If you look at the results you’ll see quite a few put 100 million. I can pretty much guarantee that the people that say they need $100 million are most likely the ones that will never get there. People that have $100 million never set out to make that much money. They set out to build something successful. They didn’t build it to make $100 million. Often things are built that aren’t even in a market that is $100 million. The product is so good and the business expands in such a way, that it makes the market.
The second important part is time. People that have a lot of money don’t set out to make more. They are looking for time. They put so much time into making money that now they want some of that time back. The money is enough. Now they want an exit. Maybe not from the business but from the 80 hour work weeks. Most wealthy people don’t make it to $100 million because nobody needs $100 million and they quit pushing once they are comfortable.
A finally. 5 million will hold you off a long time if you don’t really crazy on your trips and spending. Especially if your home is paid for. That’s my number. If I make more then I make more but I have a ton of things I want to do and most don’t need tons of cash to accomplish.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
SmartReseller.com makes me think of my older brother.
At the start of this year I convinced him to start selling items on eBay. It was a little slow at first, but he’s gotten very into it and has been regularly pulling in 4k+ profit per month the last 4-5 months or so. In total he’s made around 25k profit doing it as a side hustle for roughly 5 hours per week. This past week he was told that next month he may lose his job due to the pandemic (he has worked as a maintenance guy at a high school for the last 19 years). I can’t even tell you how much it has helped him having that piece of mind that he has extra money coming in. Anyways, sorry for rambling but there is money to be made there. Maybe I’ll tell him about the domain 😉
@Tom
Love hearing these types of stories. Adam Strong and I talk about how eBay is how we got into domains. We were always flipping things. Hit it big on one thing and then found domains.
I used to sell boy scout patches on ebay when I was in high school. It was a good introduction to making money online.
Shane – totally agree.
@Tom that’s awesome. Is he selling used stuff, reselling online stuff or selling local purchases online?
