I’m hoping you’re reading this and I’m in Vegas. I am writing this two days in advance because I have 21 hours in the air to get to NamesCon and now know what its like for the Aussie guys feel like when they come over. I really think it takes a place like Vegas to bring in people from the other side of the world. The cost of the flight combined with just the wear and tear of travel almost takes a guaranteed return to get people from 18 plus hours a way in my opinion. But people fly to Vegas from that far away just to see Vegas.
Today is also the big Namjet/ROTD auction at 4pm. Undoubtedly it has some amazing names. Maybe the best list ever put together. As I stated before, I think the auction is going to move very very slowly and is going to go much longer than anticipated because of all the high reserve names. I hope I’m wrong but saying that the auction is going to go longer than planned is not a big stretch. This year I don’t have my eye on any names yet but the live list hadn’t been announced when I wrote this.
And finally on a personal note, our mission was a huge success. We treated 41 athletes and paid the medical bills for countless others. An epidemic of hepatitis B broke out while we were there so the hospital was packed for a few days as people got checked or treated. AIDS, while way down in new cases, continues to be a widespread issue as well. We were there for sports medicine but you find yourself being used for anything that is pressing. I did more of the marketing and communication part while I was there but the nurses that came with us ended up helping in other areas and worked a ton more than they had expected. But they were amazing and gave up their siteseeing time to treat extra patients. The trip always puts things in perspective. I took my wife with me and she too is changed forever. It’s going to be a huge change to go from doing God’s work to Sin city. But I’m pretty sure I’ll adjust just fine.
Say hi if you see me. I’ll be the one that smells like he missed a few showers. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD continue writing each day.
