I’ve always been a big fan of survival shows but I’m addicted to the show Alone. Naked and Afraid was entertaining but Alone is the real deal. They don’t mess around on Alone. No McDonalds around the corner and pretend surviving. I love watching the different personalities and how they each approach it differently.
There’s the person that goes straight for the shelter. In season 5 there’s a guy that builds a straight up log cabin with a fireplace. Other people are sleeping under their tarps with a few walls and that’s about it. But this dude is smoking fish and living in a straight up home. One thing that used to surprise me but doesn’t anymore after watching several seasons, is how many people tap out simply because they miss their family. Once they start to suffer they quickly say “fuck it” and go home. While there certainly are people that are much more skilled than the others in survival, from getting food to tips and techniques. A good bit of luck comes in to it. Fish and animals in the area. Odd things happening. Just as in life, not everyone is dealt the same hand.
After watching the shows I now find my self reading survival handbooks and watching videos even though I most likely will never be in the situation. I do Morgan Linton type hiking and climbing, where I wear $300 boots and pack plenty of food for the trip. I feel comfortable that I could set a snare trap but most likely my Subway sandwich is going to last me for the day. And instead I’ll just watch another episode of Alone on my phone in my $1000 sleeping bag

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
I’ve been a fan of that show for years as well Shane. I always think that the people that can stay busy with ‘projects’ they make for themselves seem to do the best. It often seems the others that just sit under a tarp with nothing to do let their mind run wild and they miss home and family and think about all the other things they could be doing instead.
