I haven’t bought a Lego set in a decade. I still have all my Legos from when I was a kid and in my 20s I spent weekends going to garage sales to hunt them down. In short, I have a ton. But I bought a set this week on Black Friday. The Colosseum. 9000 F’n pieces which makes it the biggest set Lego has ever produced. I set my alarm for Midnight to buy it although it was available when I woke up. It sold out later that day.
I bought it because I thought it would be a fun build. If I didn’t build it I was pretty sure I could sell it for more than I paid. It costs $600 shipped but already selling for $750 on eBay and the free set that came with it, Dickens Christmas is selling for $50 so I could make a few hundred. I’ll wait to see if they sell more . If they do I’ll probably put it together or give it to a nephew or niece. If not I told my wife I’d sell it if it got to $1500. Yes, my wife was less than thrilled. Something along the lines of “the last thing we need more of around this house is more shit”
Obviously she is unaware of the significance and coolness of this set so its understandable that she would think it wasn’t a great purchase. She also is unaware I have spent more or even more worthless stuff in the past year. Making this purchase seem not as bad as it was. I could give the money to charity or buy a nice gift for someone but then I wouldn’t have the largest set Lego ever made. I also wouldn’t be able to dust off my 23 old eBay account and post something for the first time in over 10 years. You can’t take all that away. Not in a Covid year. Terrible purchases on needless stuff to make yourself feel better seems to be the right thing this year.
Next up. 1980 Quasar tv to make me feel like a kid again

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
