When I watched A Star is Born I feel like I was watching the story of Josh and I. Except I was never a star, I an incredibly ugly version of Bradley Cooper and Josh has been successful from day one. Just from a known commodity standpoint. His lists are so much better than mine and he really puts in the time. He does a fantastic job using scripts to work through drops and goes deep. But that’s not how he makes money. He makes money by successfully picking up names that have a higher potential of resell than most names. And those percentages come through. It’s 100% a numbers game and he is winning that game. Some say its a game that can’t be won but they are missing the most important step. Getting it on as many platforms as possible for a potential buyer to find it. It really needs to be EVERYWHERE. He gets them everywhere. I sit here and tell you about me selling a name a couple times a month and he has that many every day…and more. But he can’t teach you which names. As he said yesterday, it’s art. But you can make sure your names are properly listed everywhere.
On that note, we sold a name yesterday. Kevin Fink and I partnered up on a .io and while it wasn’t a huge sale it was four figures and we tripled our money. We hadn’t gotten many offers. Just a few in the year that we had it and decided to take the offer and keep moving. I think we could have sold for more down the road but who knows how long we’d have to wait and .io is not like dot com. It could be successful forever or something newer and cooler could come around and deflate the values. Why a partner on such a small investment? It’s a test partnership to see how we would work together. Being friends is easy. Working together when money is involved is more difficult. It worked out just fine and I imagine we’ll roll it into more names. I’ll release the name after we close the deal.
Here are today’s names. A bit short today but just didn’t see many I liked. Click through to see the current price
Quote of the Day: “If you begin to regret, you’ll dull your future decisions and let others make your choices for you. Nobody can foretell the outcome. Each decision you make holds meaning only by affecting your next decision.” -Erwin Smith, Shingeki no Kyoujin
Domain of the Day: BeardButter.com Might be my favorite name on the list because it has one of the best chances of reselling IMO

Botanical names sell? Serious? Must be private sales as publicly, only 2 in the last 8 years barely cracked 4 figures. My tight 20 year old name has never had an offer. Ha ha. One day, one day…
Chris,
I don’t mean the actual term Botanical. I mean like Leaf, sage, and all kinds of horticultural names. tell me the names of your canna shops in your area
Oh, sorry, Shane. LA area names are all over the map – Hollyweed420, OrganicMC, domains that don’t match the biz name, and lots of really crappy names like meccanaturalmedicine.org. I agree – the pure botanic and short names will go to the more sophisticated companies. And the crappy one-offs will churn among domainers and little budget dispensaries. Fun to watch the industry develop. And thanks for your time!
