I love to read. I don’t make as much time for it as I should but when I find a good book I push everything out of the way until its done. My friends know I like a good book so when they find a writer they think I would like they gift me. One friend gave me books by Charles Bukowski. He merely said “You’re gonna like these” as he gave them to me. He gave it to me because he knows I like a style of writing that is non formal and personal. Bukowski is absolutely this. At times he can get crude, but as open and honest as any writer that ever lived. But some times a little too honest. His description of his throwing up and sexual encounters have me looking over at my wife because I forget I’m not reading it aloud and not just in my head. I often wonder if he was borderline crazy or just an addict that accepted his fate. He could take an everyday moment and describe it in a way that made you look at it in a different light. It’s not for everyone. Especially those that like to be informed or impressed by vocabulary. But you will be left rereading lines. Lines that while written decades ago that are probably more true today than the 30 plus decades ago when they were written. Anyone else like a good Bukowski book? Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD continue writing each day.
Quote of the Day: “Born into this. Into hospitals which are so expensive that it’s cheaper to die. Into lawyers who charge so much it’s cheaper to plead guilty. Into a country where the jails are full and the madhouses closed. Into a place where the masses elevate fools into rich heroes...” ~ Charles Bukowski

Good quote. Now I’ll have to read one of the books.
Charles Bukowski is in my opinion one of the best American writers ever and a must read
Agreed
Hi Shane
May i ask in order of preference what titles you liked
Thanks
Ham on Rye
Post Office
Factotum
Bukowski digs really deep and challenges us to the core. Great stuff.
Another highly recommended Shane is Memory Wall by Anthony Doerr – great collection of short stories.
Thanks Paul. I’ll check it out
Domain quality is so poor in drop lists these days…not worth the effort imo.
Some days are better than others. It will only get worse as the years go by. Domains will get used and people will keep anything with value. In 5 years you’ll wish names of this quality were available on the drop
