The upgrade. That’s been my domain business model for the last decade. Sell a name and replace that name with a better name than the name sold. If you can’t, then you didn’t get enough for the name. That’s the model. That’s it. My next model is to sell names for enough money to buy a replacement AND put a bunch of extra money into the bank. I’m not there yet. That will probably take another decade.
I wish I could provide details on my recent upgrade but the buy isn’t quite complete yet. Its a MUCH better name than the name sold. I’ll reveal the details next time I’m on Sherpa. But the name sold is a name that is pretty specific to the person that bought it. It was purchased for only $12 and sold for low four figures. I then turned around and bought a domain at auction that has a much broader appeal. Giving me a lot better chance of getting me more money for it. It’s all about the amount of potential buyers. If a name only has a few and is very specific it generally isn’t worth as much.
On a side note, its great that they were able to have another Domaining Europe but it does show just how small our industry is. There were less than 75 people in the photos. We had 150 people show up for $100 bus tour of a garden with lunch. Our industry will continue to get smaller as the original domain investors cash out, the big companies eat the smaller guys, new domain investors struggle to make money, and the other investment opportunities return better returns. I don’t see the trend reversing any time soon. Which is fine for me because I have been doing just fine. Less people leaves more inventory and I only need other investors in the sell auctions. They are in my way in the buy side. The real money doesn’t involve them because end users are the larger sales. Things will change in time but I won’t pretend to know when or what the change will be. Here are today’s domains. Hope you find a good one. Click to see the latest price

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
