I write a newsletter for our nursery. I do it myself since I write a lot and can put one together pretty quickly. Newsletters are a dime a dozen. If you wanted to know how many there are you found out this week. You pretty much got one from every single company you ever bought something at. You got find out what COVID meant to them and what they were doing about it.
When I first started writing the newsletter 7 years ago I wasn’t sure of open rate. I had always assumed they were pretty low and from everyone I talked to I am right. We all look for new items or sales. That’s pretty much the only reason to read. I was trying to figure out how to get people to read and included both of those. A few sale items, some good pics, a coupon, and some new items. I got 30% open rate and checked with some other people that wrote newsletters and said that was fantastic. Much higher than average. I actually thought it was awful. Two thirds of the people that singed up for our newsletter never even read it. I say this because I only have people that double opt in. They have to sign up themselves independently of any purchases and then agree through email. Not one person is on the list because they didn’t check a box or it was thrown on top of an action. They signed up because they wanted it. But 2/3 really didn’t seem to want it despite the sign up.
So I tried something. I told a story like I do at the top of this post every day. Same concept, different topics. Actually some times its the same but I do gear it towards family and our nursery. It was a hit. I can get 30-50 emails from a list of 3000 saying how much they enjoyed the newsletter. And the open rate? 60% plus. Which I’m pretty sure is as high as any newsletter in the country with a list of over 2000 people. So good that I have to make sure people are ready for the phones and traffic when I send one. It really does make people come out or think of us. All because I made it fun, personable, and tell a good story. Marketing 101
PS My state is now Shelter in Place so I better hold on tight or I won’t have a business to send a newsletter out anyway.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
Most times I read in preview , I don’t open emails. Its quicker and easier. I don’t think this counts as an open so you may have more than you thought all along?
