The great part of writing every single day is I pretty much document my entire domain journey right here. It’s a diary that I can go back and read and either laugh or shake my head. I decided to see some of my “what I bought this year” posts and see what I did with the domains. I’ve sold a lot more names that I remembered. I can see why my portfolio has gotten pretty good after 12 years of buying and selling. Here is a look back on a few of the posts
From 4/19/2013
YUSU (sold)
BOWO (sold)
VUGU (sold)
DOWO (sold)
FOKO (sold)
IGHA
ToolChest
Hatsy (sold)
Doodled (sold)
BetterParking (sold)
Puddl (to go with my Puddles.com)
Auditions.tv (sold)
FightObesity.org
Had a pretty good sell through on this list. Of course they would all be worth a lot more now
From 10/20/2012
LandscapeDesigner. com (still own)
Cupcakes. info (dropped)
Galavant. com (sold)
Successor. com (sold)
HDDVDBurners. com (dropped)
Algaecides. com (dropped)
TreeSpader. com (dropped)
ShitIFound. com (dropped)
Weety. com (sold)
This list was a dud bought I made a great profit with the names I did end up selling. And LandscapeDesigner is definitely more valuable than what I paid for it back in 2010
From 1/11/2011 I left my original commentary since it’s pretty funny to look back at.
7881.com Overpaid here but I really like the number. The last purchase of my $10,000 into NNNN experiment (I do actually have $800 left so I may buy one more)
1248 Loved the way the numbers double. China loves domains that end in 8 but don’t like the 4. At the price I paid I could double my money tomorrow
3065 Didn’t have a 4 and that’s all I looked for when adding to my portfolio
3289 Is it crazy to pick a domain based on how it types out on a numeric keypad? That’s why I bought this one
aPillow For under a hundred dollars I thought it was a steal. AND…I love pillows
Koppo 5 Letter that is a nice tight type on the keyboard. Go ahead, type it out…Nice huh?
Wirby Stole this one. A nice 5 letter domain. I’ll do well with this one
Akly I bought it for a few hundred dollars for two reasons. One, it is a pronounceable 4 letter dot com. Two it was getting 7,000 uniques a month. Turned out to be adult traffic that I don’t usually mess with but I’m pretty sure I can get my money back just from monetizing the traffic.
GirlsFighting (this is a dot net) I was a sucker for the searches 112,000. I figured I could flip this one. Anyone want to buy it for $300?
BlueTomatoes I just liked the name. As a plant grower it fits my niche. As a brand building guy I don’t think there’s an easier logo in the world to make. 1996 registration was an added bonus. I thought it was a great buy
I still own blue tomatoes but unfortunately I sold every other name on this list. I may have dropped GirlsFighting. That one I don’t remember. But I do remember 7881 because I left six figures on the board.
I say that I’ve become a better buyer as I learn domain investing but the more I look at it, the more I realize I am becoming a better salesman. I am more patient and can afford to wait for a bigger price. I’ve made some bad decisions (the .ws thing) but over all is wasn’t too bad considering I was relatively new to domain investing. And I didn’t have a ton of money to play with. I had just a few thousand dollars. Sold them to start the $10,000 purchases of NNNN.com of which the sales gave me the bankroll to be where I am today with zero outside dollar investment. Every domain you see me talk about today is a result of the flips you see in this post and many more not listed. And to think it only took 10 years of working at it a few hours a day. An overnight success
Quote of the Day: “I don’t know where the limits are, but I would like to go there” – Eliud Kipchoge (1st man in history to run a marathon in less than 2 hours)
Domain of the Day: AllStar.com This just showed up in the auctions. I can only imagine how high this one is going to go
Namejet, Sedo, Snap, and other Names Up for Auction
Born.net Looks like this one is actually going to hit reserve
Dolero.com A Hispanic last name and “Doler” means “to hurt” in Spanish
Fintech360.com For all you fintech people. Yes all 3 of you
Imtuk.com 17 years old. Age doesn’t make it better but it doesn’t hurt it either. No bids
Luncheo.com Food or date. No bidders
Parmee.com A last name and that’s good enough to be a brand down the road. And 6 letters so short
Ewing.com There are a lot of Ewings in the world but most men think of Patrick
Mathematic.com I think this one is worth the high reserve. The singular is a good brand
CLBR.com R for Realty. The rest are great letters
CyclingSchool.com It’s not as easy as riding a bike
Turbon.com 1996 birthday. A little bit of turbo and a little bit of turban

999996.com Given how high this one is can you imagine the price of 999999.com
66491.com, 66492.com and 66493.com Don’t get a chance to own sequential much anymore
Genovese.com The name is best known for the mob family of the same name. The most powerful of the big 5 mobs. Was started by Lucky Luciano
AnimatorExpo.com huge competition for this historic name. Tons of juice and backlinks to pass along to your business Evidently 5 figures worth
FarmHero.com Sounds like a iPhone game
ExtraVegetables.com Would be the perfect name for vegetable sharing app. Everyone grows too many and ends up throwing them away
Appsters.com Apps creator or directory
KPopLine.com K-Pop so you can imagine it gets a ton of traffic
ShareMyRide.com Pretty obvious ride share name
CountMeIn.org Volunteer sign up name all the way
SolarLease.com Pretty much every solar installation now is a solar lease
CreditBee.com Adding bee to a keyword has been a popular naming convention for decades
Zaffle.com A perfect example of a brandable that means nothing so it can be anything
HEOT.com Not just hot but heot
Leene.com Fails the radio test horribly but nice short name
DamageReport.com Sounds like a hard hitting news site
IBBG.com G for Group. The rest of the letters are good. I think these types of LLLL.com have been a good value. People have been dumping them for cash to buy one worders. They take patience. My opinion only. Don’t put a cent into my opinion or you will lose your money
Pleek.com The kind of 5L I have been buying for a decade
BusyThumbs.com Anything mobile
OldDriver.com Sounds like a delicious Whisky
LiveDeliciously.com Like the name as a foodie brand but not sure anyone can spell deliciously
OrganicGroceryStore.com Like the store but a git generic for my taste

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
Shane- you did pretty well over the years- fun to look back!
Don’t forget about Ewing Oil and JR Ewing- he would have wanted that name back in the day! But Patrick was a great Knick!
Also- I think there are least 5 of us in the fintech game!
Cheers,
Mike
For a minute there I thought you weren’t going to mention the 2 hour mark being broken…
Thanks for sharing Shane. It’s very helpful!
