The clock on my bedroom stand is one hour, twenty minutes fast. That might not seem like anything crazy except its been like that for 11 years. Yes years. I’ve never fixed it and it has a memory backup so even when the power goes out it goes right back to where it is. It absolutely drives my wife crazy. She’ll wake up in the middle of the night and peer over to my side of the bed and think its almost time to get up when in reality she has an hour twenty left to sleep. Its become such a constant that my mind automatically creates the real time when I see it.
I use the example of my clock when I give speeches. Things that are constants are easy to manage. Things that change and are variable are not. If you walk home every day and at 5:16 someone throws a rock at you then at 5:15 you should be ready for the rock. If they throw it at you every two weeks at a random time, you ALWAYS will be thinking of that rock and you have to mentally manage the stoning all the time. Way more difficult. So don’t I just change it?
I don’t change it because it makes me laugh every night. When I set my alarm each night my wife shakes her head and I giggle. 3000 plus nights of a smile. I’d also be screwed up if the time was right now. I know I’d adjust quickly but that would be no fun. The other bonus is I don’t feel like I’m getting up so early. I get up every day at 4:15 am but my clock says 5:35 so I don’t feel like the weird old guy that gets up at the crack of dawn. I’m just the weird old guy that has his clock set an hour and twenty minutes fast, still has an actual alarm clock, AND gets up at the crack of dawn.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
Shane, getting up early is a gift. Once people get into the routine of it and see how much more they can get done in the day they understand it.
My entire family gets up early. Granted, were all farmers/former military so I guess that plays a big role in it. I wake up at 4:30 usually on my own without an alarm, and I am known as the one who “sleeps in”. I can’t even remember the last time I got up after 6am. It’s been at least 12 years or more.
Tom,
Sounds like we’re on the same sleep cycle 🙂
