Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Thursday August 6th, 2020

I don’t participate in the cancel culture but Kevin Murphy of DomainIncite needs to be canceled This tweet he sent to me was ridiculous. All because of a joke I made making fun of his expectations of free stuff. I didn’t find the response funny in the slightest bit. I was and still am offended and pissed. I wanted a public apology and it to be deleted. Instead he held his ground and considered it a joke and no big deal. To met that is more of the issue than the “joke” itself.

You tell me if you thought it was funny. He doesn’t know my family or how those words would effect me. I told him he better pray that online conferences stay online. In all honesty if he would have said that to me in person I would have done something I would have regretted. I hope everyone sees what kind of person Kevin is and treats him accordingly. Our industry has zero room for people like him. That’s not an opinion that’s a fact.

  1. Totally agree Shane, While Kevin might have thought this was a joke, It hasn’t been seen this way by others in the industry and most importantly by you.

I know he is trying to own his opinion on the matter and not delete or apologise but I personally believe he should remove the Tweet and put a public apology out on his blog today and to the 15K followers on Twitter.

While also make a donation to a RAPE Support Charity too maybe his advertisers might wish to redirect funds for a period to a RAPE Charity apposed to his blog for a period of time?

There is no place for RAPE being used as a joke period!

I am all for forgiveness and giving people a second chance but you first need to admit you were wrong and ask for this forgiveness.

    Just my two cents…

    1. Robbie,

      It was a joke.

The reason I know it was a joke is because it was broadcast on Comedy Central — a basic cable TV channel in the USA — a year or two ago.

      Kevin

  2. That’s the kind of joke one might make when you’re 20 beers in with your best buddies. Even then it would be out-of-line. But to do it on a public forum like Twitter against a colleague in a small industry like this takes a special kind of stupid.

  3. I dont know the story and do not reaaly care.

BUT…I would punch the mother f*cker ….talking about my mother…..period.

I would not accept any apology.

    Dude needs a whack.

  4. Joke wasn’t funny. Only funny thing is the beginning of the post where you say cancel culture is wrong unless you are the one doing the cancelling.

    1. Ray,

No I’m saying that you can’t cancel because someone says something you don’t agree with. I think everyone agrees that this is plain wrong. With an apology and deletion it would have gone away. Instead he thinks there is nothing wrong with it.

  5. I blocked him right away.Shows the kind of person he is and anyone who is friends with him should think about being friends with a sex offender.

This is not a joke period and his advertisers should see what business they are supporting.

  6. I knew Kevin didn’t like Shane when he said Shane had the worst breath ever but this is uncalled for. F*ck Kevin.

  7. This is the worst I have ever seen since i arrived at this industry.
Being in domains since 1999 it only means that until now we
didn’t know the lack of common sense and values, offensive and
irresponsible he is, what a disgrace.
    Family is sacred………period.
Any advertiser that doesn’t take action supports this action and
    doesn’t deserve our business.

    1. The joke was originally broadcast on Comedy Central.

Comedy Central is owned by CBSViacom.

Are you calling the domain industry to avoid doing business with CBSViacom?

  8. Registry Office
    InternetX Auto DNS
    IRON DNS
    .site
    .fm
    You guys support this?
Would your mother or father like this if this was said to you?

    1. I think it is funny, in the context it was originally delivered — on a basic cable Comedy Central roast. Certainly not in the context I delivered it.

  9. I can understand it may be a joke, but the form, context, and delivery is wrong. It’s something you might say if you’re a kid and it’s a close friend of similar mind and of average or lower IQ, or you’re a comedian like Daniel Tosh and the audience expects it.

  10. Hi Shane,

I’d like to apologize for this joke, which was completely misjudged.

Earlier in the day, I’d had a double-whammy of very bad news and I was blind drunk at the time of that tweet exchange.

I genuinely thought I was being funny at the time, though in the cold light of day obviously I see that you weren’t seeing the funny side and I should have immediately deleted it.

Not that it’s relevant, but it’s not my joke. I stole it from a comic I’d seen on YouTube this week. Possibly Sarah Silverman, or maybe Nikki Glaser.

I’ve deleted the tweet, and apologize without qualification.

Hopefully we can get past this, Shane.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  11. Kevin,

Let’s end this. You’re making excuses instead of just saying sorry and move on. The thing about words is they mean one thing when used in a certain situation and another in other situations. What worked on comedy central was directed to a person who’s mother’s family has been effected by rape and not only didn’t work but was offensive. So I suggest you just move on and stop trying to explain yourself because I’m starting to think you feel it was more about the person that received it than the person who delivered it.

    1. Shane.

I apologized sincerely — and it really was sincere — to you and your mom a couple days ago, just as soon as I was alerted to the fact that I had offended somebody.

I have not contacted either of you since.

Today, I’ve read what other people were saying about me on your blog for the first time, and I think it’s not unreasonable for me to respond, given that some of them appear to be trying to destroy my livelihood because they did not like a joke that you and your mom have already forgiven me for.

If you disagree, fair enough. It’s your site.

      Kevin
