Like so many people in this industry I have been dabbling in bitcoin. When I say dabbling I mean selling for bitcoin and keeping it. Earlier this fall I was trading back and forth between ETH and BTC trying to chart it and catch the one that ran better. I got lucky. I got paid in BTC and moved it to ETH when Bitcoin out paced it and then ETH moved and I moved it back to BTC. Enought that I picked up half a bitcoin by doing it. Yes there will be tax implications, and I’m now HODLing on the bitcoin long term….I think. I sold 123 dot io for one bitcoin which was 15K at the time in Nov and since I still have it I essentially sold it for $23K. But taking in the trading I have 1.13 BTC which means I got $26K for the name.
Yes, I know it could have gone down and there are taxes but at this point in time I have $23,000 more in value than I paid for the name. While that could change I still feel like it was a good sale. Like everyone I would have liked to sell more names this year but with the sale of NIQ everything else was pure gravy. Add in that the nursery business was out of this world this year with profits doubling and my year was pretty special.
I have to remind myself not to try and compare myself to the full time investors. Many are crushing it and I dream of all their sales and wonder why I don’t have those. They put in more time, that’s why. It’s literally their job. But they have to pay for their house, their bills and still reinvest in new names. Us side hustle people keep it flowing right back into more names because we pay are bills with our “normal” jobs. Which is great if you love all your jobs.
I think 2021 is going to be even better than 2020. I think the uncertainty will slowly lift and companies are going to open the checkbooks even more. I have so many tightly wound springs of names that I am positive I will have another record year. Setting the goal at $300K. Not a lot for some people but for me its fantastic. I hope all of you crush it as well in the coming year. You have a much better chance of it just by reading this list. And if not you at least learned something about something you never cared about until I blabbered on and on about it.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
