Domain Investing is truly an International business. I was exhausted yesterday because the weather is nicer than usual and the nursery is hopping. But I was closing a bunch of domain and Internet stuff and the other side of the deals were all over the world. One in Czechoslovakia, one in Singapore, and one on the West Coast. I was selling two domains and one went through fine but I had to get a call back from Godaddy but I recently got a new account rep. It worked out fine but I had to call to get them to call me back. It went right through but the registrar in Europe said they needed an auth from me that I transferred the name but it turned out to not be the case. Something I told the new buyer but he wasn’t quite sure what to do. The problem is they are 6 hours ahead so their morning when they are fresh and ready to go is after midnight for me. And I get up at 4:30. Doesn’t leave a lot of time for sleep. Add in the West Coast guy who wanted to do things at night and I’m 2 hours later. Again, late night
Then I acquired our Instagram account for Botany.com and the previous company/owner was in Singapore (I believe). The time difference and the language difference made the transaction last weeks and of course it closed close to midnight as well. I was super stoked to have two sales and acquire a big asset for our company but I WAS EXHAUSTED yesterday morning. I had a tempo run and I ran a 6:49 pace 6 miler at 5:15 am but when I was done I was ready for the day to be over and in reality I had another 12 hour work day ahead of me. I made it through but these are the days when I have to remind myself to take it easy or I’ll kill myself. But don’t worry, I have a good 8 hour sleep ahead of me and an easy, slow 8 miler in the morning. See, I’m taking it easy. PS I talk about one of the sales on Sherpa on Monday. I always give names with the stories but didn’t want to spoil Sherpa. Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on.

Shane, what are the prices for two word twitter handles? And how do you transfer them to your twitter account?
Eugene,
First thing. The names we acquire are for the businesses that own the exact match dot com. Including some of our own. These are not for flipping. Buying to resell is against the TOS and I’m not willing to risk losing big money trying to flip. But acquiring a handle for Twitter and Instagram is the same as buying a domain. It really depends on the quality of the handle and if the current owner has any interest in selling. I’ve seen handles go between $500 and $20,000. The transfer is merely switching the email address associated with it and the password. Escrow.com handles the transactions just like they do any other digital asset.
Thanks for your prompt and detailed response, Shane. Yes, I want to buy a handle for myself that matches my .com domain name. I’m trying to contact an owner who did just one random twit in 2012 and disappeared…
