I have a questions for readers. Do you ever get a 502 Bad Gateway error when you’re on a Godaddy page? If you do do you mind letting us know where you get it, how often, and what browser in the comment section. We’re working with Godaddy on a few things and that’s one of them. We know what we personally get but its a small sample size of 3. We could use a little help.
Morgan Linton had a post the other day saying he was abandoning his thought of doing a newsletter. His readers comments were right on the money. They basically said that it was going to be a lot of time for a little money. I think most people have no idea how long it takes to do things right. If you have other responsibilities it can be a big burden. What ends up happening is you start to cut corners and half ass things. I know. I have given up tons to do this list and I absolutely wouldn’t be able to do it without Josh doing two days a week and Travis helping when I need to go somewhere. I have to drive for two days coming up and in the past it would mean losing some sleep or not doing it. Now Travis can do it and I can enjoy some time with my family.
When Morgan said he wanted to do a newsletter I knew it was either not going to happen or it was going to happen and then sizzle out. I love Morgan, he is one of my favorite people in the industry ,but he pivots more than any person I’ve ever seen. I can say it because he knows it. He is always trying new things and its been fun to watch the journey over the last decade because he’s shared it publicly. Doing more is easy temporary but doing it over and over is easier said than done. In general people get bored or frustrated pretty easily. Especially when there isn’t any regular feedback
I’ve always wanted to do more but there really just isn’t any more time in my day based on my current responsibilities . Something would have to give and I’ve finally realized that. The nursery is only getting bigger and although I am taking more time off its to travel and see all the places I missed while helping build the nursery. I do have one goal. I am going to make a big effort to start a video podcast in the Rogan style of just sitting down and shooting the shit with people. I’ve talked about it for years but never made the time. We’ll see if I can finally make it happen. And it won’t be for the money and it won’t be just domains. Too confining and I think there are some great non domaining stories out there to be told. I wouldn’t hold your breath. It might be after I retire from something.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
Yes Shane, had that error again last week and was maybe the second perhaps third time on your site in total.
Hi Shane,
You are correct…time is of essence…and when we are worried about time we might end up compromising the quality of the project started.
Shane would love to see your video podcast… following Rogan style is okay…but please don’t follow his time dedicated for each episode… really difficult to stick till the end.
May be follow John Green (famous Author) style vlogs…he and his brother make these videos of around 10 mins of duration…they post under VlogBrothers on YouTube.
And you can make it quick and more… Of course once you started to do.
I didn’t saw that error anytime for GoDaddy.
Thanks,
Ravi.
502 message on Binoculars.org today….
Received several yesterday for the first time on a variety of names.
Thanks for putting this together. I make sure to review your list daily.
Yes I have gotten 502 bad gateway on their appraisal page numerous times, sometimes lasting a whole day or two. Using Firefox.
Hey Shane,
This issue has gotten much worse since I emailed you about it a few weeks ago . 502 is often a local issue but clearly there is something going on with GoDaddy’s web servers or CDN that is causing these.
From what I have seen the errors are more likely to occur on the Chrome and Firefox browsers. I see them on both browsers from multiple blogs and even the emails from my rep. I have to use Opera to view DSAD to make sure all the GoDaddy links work.
Deleting your cache and history will usually clear it up on the offending browsers but that is extremely inconvenient. I suspect it mainly affects people who log into multiple GoDaddy accounts but that is more or less a S.W.A.G. based on years of IT troubleshooting.
I even tagged a Joe and Paul in a video showing links from their own site throwing 502 errors and Joe said he’d have someone look into it. At this point I’m just doing my best to work around the issue and hope it gets the attention it deserves from GoDaddy’s IT department.
I get those 502 errors often on GD. I use Chrome. They go away if I clear my cookies. But they only stay away for about 1-2 days and then they come back. Then I clear my cookies and round and round I go. I’ve also noticed I get it on the GD appraisal page as well. But, interestingly, I don’t seem to get it on non-expiry GD auction pages. Yup, makes no sense. Anyway, hope this helps.
Hi Shane,
502 Bad Gateway error from Firefox almost daily now when i click on your links.
Sometimes within Go Daddy directly too.
Hope they fix it, i miss checking in on the names.
Thanks for all the hard work you guys do!
Joe
I get the 502 errors everyday on GoDaddy.
Since the fist updates since the stone age, I have had many -especially the last few weeks. Doesn’t seem to matter if chrome or firefox – same issues. Had a whole page of 502 errors a few days ago. Just now I get this when trying to verify Afternic listings:
We apologize for this inconvenience, but an error has been detected.
The details of the error have been recorded. We will investigate the matter and take appropriate action. If you need immediate assistance, please contact our customer support department.
Thank You.
Thanks Chris and everyone for sharing. Obviously Godaddy has a problem
Very true Shane – I do know it, love trying new ideas, only stick to the ones that work out.
So far what’s worked is:
1) Investing in .COM
And that’s the list 😉
As for 502 errors with Go Daddy, never had any issues in the 12 years I’ve used them.
Hi Shane
Hope all is great.
Informed GD already a 1 1/2 month ago, we get 502 Gateway error almost everywhere
now, the only way to log in or check anything is through an incognito window on chrome
big headache, we believe something got stored in all our computers (cookie or ?)
Thanks
David
Shane-
Always says bad gateway on Google Chrome on my pc. Never a problem on iPhone.
Thanks,
Tom
