I have been on the road the last two days picking up my daughter’s stuff from college and bringing it home. That’s right, my daughter’s stuff, not my daughter. A lot of parents have to do it. You kid lives in a dorm and doesn’t move into an apartment until August. You could rent a spot but since she doesn’t have a car even that doesn’t work real well either. So my wife and I drove 11 hours, had dinner, got her stuff. Spent the night. Got up and did a trail and quarry run with my daughter and off to finals she went and we drove home. She’s going to stay and go to the ACC track and field finals in Virginia with her team and then fly home.
It is virtually impossible to work when you’re driving. My phone, emails, and text were blowing up for two days. Between the nursery being open 7 days a week and domain investing being a 24 hour a day thing, I am never off. Never. And that’s with 30 plus people helping me to take work off my plate. Just there are just too many people that have my number after 25 years that feel comfortable emailing me or texting me questions every time the weather breaks. What is this flower? Can you send someone out to mulch my place? I’m selling a stump grinder, know anyone looking for one? Add in the domain stuff and its not unusual to get 100 texts and 300 emails a day. In my routine its not a problem but I realized when I can’t take care of it as it comes in that there isn’t enough time at night to take care of it. Important stuff had to be done on the phone and the rest had to be split between night and the next day.
And a final tally of expenses for my daughter shows that her generation spending an absolutely ridiculous amount of money on coffee. And that athletes spend a ridiculous amount of money on everything. Their parents are all like me. We are grateful for their scholarships and since they saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars we pretty much let them buy anything they want. And they do. I thought my daughter had pretty good money management skills. She does. But only when it comes to HER money. She barely touched her debit account but blew up our credit card on Starbucks and her favorite coffee house. And uber, and snacks. Over a thousand dollars on coffee alone. I’m 100% buying her a Breville machine for her apartment but I’m pretty sure that won’t matter because the coffee shops have ingrained the thought that home coffee isn’t as good. The other brilliant thing is they put a giant Starbucks across from her dorm. Next year there will be nothing close. She’ll have to drive next year if she wants coffee shop coffee. Which means now I’ll have to pay for gas AND coffee. Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on

Am I going to see you on an episode of HGTV International where you tell the audience that you’ve left the busy life to buy a private 10 acre island in the middle of nowhere?
It could happen. But I like people. So probably not a private island. An exclusive island 🙂
