I wasn’t aware that domain.com and their resellers, dotster, mydomain, netfirms and probably a host of others, are selling their expired inventory through Godaddy auctions. I’m not sure if this is a new thing or maybe I did know and just forgot.
I can’t imagine the headache Godaddy’s having dealing with these stellar registrars, if their auction fulfillment is anything like their normal day to day operation. But their problems are another topic that could fill volumes. As a side note, they are also Tucows resellers, so I imagine that inventory now goes to Namejet.
The reason that I was attuned to this the last couple of days is because I saw some of my names that are expired at Dotster and Netfirms come up at auction. I try and remove my names from any list that I publish, I don’t want to give the impression that I’m testing the auction or anything like that since I’m not, but it’s a lot harder to track, if the names are at other registrars.
Since I’m not the most organized person, I’ll see names and think “that looks good, I should add it to the list” only to find out that I own it. I knew it looked familiar for some reason.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
I, too, wasn’t aware that Domain.com and their resellers, Dotster, MyDomain, Netfirms were selling their expired inventory through GoDaddy auctions.
According to the latest information I had, Domain.com and Dotster were selling through SnapNames: http://www.domainsherpa.com/auction-partners-of-domain-name-registrars/
I’ll reach out to GoDaddy for comment. Thanks, Josh.
Mike, while you’re at it ask them if the names are transferring to Godaddy. I received a few change of registrant notification emails from Netfirms, I assume after the auctions were over. I’m not sure if the names are staying at Netfirms
(which seems unprecedented for Godaddy) or it’s just part of the ICANN registrant change policy.
