I’m sure everyone that has names listed on BrandBucket got the same email that I did today, BrandBucket bought BrandRoot. If you didn’t I’m sure there’s a bunch or articles out there already, I don’t know I didn’t look. I like BrandBucket and have sold domains through the platform for several years. This spring I sold more names through them than anywhere else, which is weird because I only have about 11oo names listed there and Afternic is usually sales leader just by volume of names listed.
I haven’t added any names to BrandBucket in several years, not for any particular reason, probably just being lazy as there are a few more loops to jump through than a generic Afternic or Sedo listing. The sales have been consistent. I have a steady profit stream without having to do anything other than renew and transfer the domains.
I’m convinced that their Brand as a Brand Marketplace is now so well established and known that it drives traffic and sales along with their continued marketing. I’m guessing the acquisition of BrandRoot will only make them stronger. I’ve never used BrandRoot or even really looked into them, but I assume they sold a decent amount of names since BrandBucket took the time to buy them.
There’s a bunch of Brandable marketplaces out there, and some other will rise in popularity as a BB alternative, but for the near future BB is and will remain the dominant force in the space. That can only mean good things for the seller. I had a short lived thought that the potential existed for this merger to cause a sort of monopoly, or a restriction to innovation within BB. I quickly discarded this idea because in this business of selling virtual words, anyone out there has the potential to put an idea into action, fix a problem, or build the next best domain selling tool.
On a side note, Shane will be back tomorrow, we switched today’s and Saturday’s posts. Me, because I’m sometimes a jackass, went through the wrong list date and had to redo this thing over again.
