I gotta figure out what to do with my car. I finally had it towed to the dealer after screwing around trying to fix it myself. They called me back today and left a message saying that they think the injectors are leaking and that they need to change them all for $2000 in parts, but that there might not be compression in the engine, at which point I’d need a new motor.
It doesn’t make sense to me, I pretty sure that all the injectors didn’t start leaking at the same time and how do they not know if that’s the issue? That fact that their unsure concerns me and I also sprayed diesel fuel all over the engine by accident when I failed to tighten the filter, If that is the foundation for their leak theory than they didn’t really check anything.
I imagine that the cost of the dealer putting a new motor in the car would cost as much as a brand new car. So my dilemma is, do I have them try and fix it, scrap or sell the car somewhere. If the repair cost is even $3K I’m half way to the cost of buying a similar vehicle. What I can’t do is leave it sit around and get a new car. I still have 2 old E300D sitting around that I was planning on “fixing”. I haven’t gotten around to that project in the last 5 years.

I had same predicament…most folks have.
Best of get certified preowed with good Carfax info….or if you want cheaper, get older vehicle with lower mileage and good Carfax info.
Those cars go fast, so be prepared to act.
Scrap the other vehicles…get $100-$300 each for the other cars.
Good luck.
I started looking the used car market. After looking at all sorts of sites and wanting some some of assurance I don’t end up buying something that is going to end up needing work (money and time suck) I decided CarMax is the best place to go to. They certify them, easy monthly payments if one wants that, added warranties if one wants them, etc. That’s where I’m going.
