For some reason there’s about half the amount of domains at Godaddy expired auction today. I’m not sure the reason, if you know enlighten us. The amount of auction names is usually pretty consistent within a certain rainge, with abnormalities tending to be higher than usually.
My first thought, and I chuckle to myself after thinking it was a possibility, is that maybe Verisign suspended expiration’s due to covid-19.
Many due dates or expirations dates have been pushed back so it would actually be a nice gesture if they did suspend expriations. My Paramedic certification is a on a 2 year cycle with the National Registry of EMT’s. Normally the expiration is March 31st, but in February they extended it till at least October .
I’m not suggesting that Verisign should do this, It just made me think about it as a possibility with so few names up for expired auction.
Stay healthy, mentally and physically. I imagine the murder rate will do through the roof if people are stuck in the same house for much longer. 🙂 Check out the Duolingo app and learn a new language for free.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
Good tip on Duolingo. I’m far more conversant now in French after 10 days using it than I ever was in HS or College when I was taking the courses. Gonna flip it to Spanish soon though, more practical in my neck of the woods.
The question for Saturday was not “why so few”? But why so many? There was about 40% (~20k) of the usual number on the master list .. but it should have been only 25% (~12k-14k)!
(Did that clue help solve the mystery? lol)
The reason is fairly simple .. auctions are 35 days after expiration .. and what was 35 days before April 4th? Leap Day! I’m guessing all other Feb 29th expiration in other years get merged with the actual day they expired (March 1st I’m guessing .. so Apr 5th action days on most years).
But since we actually had a leap year this year, and in theory there should only be about 1/4 the usual number of domains registered in previous years on Feb 29th, then it should mean that on Leap Years Apr 4th would yield 1/4th the usual auctions .. and on non-leap years Apr 5th would yield 1/4th more auctions.
