I bid on a few things the other day from another business that closed up. It was run by the same auction house that sold the movie theater chairs that I bought a few months ago.
This auction was a “Famous Dave’s BBQ”, and it had a bunch of cool fishing stuff on the block. There was also a giant moose head that I thought would look pretty sweet on my wall, if I had a room that I could dedicate to furnishing with only a giant moose head as nothing else would fit.
As I was bidding on different lots of fishing paraphernalia, old style signs and other cool stuff that you would find in a well decorated restaurant, I looked at the terms of the auction and found that the pick up day was scheduled for a day that I worked. With these auctions you have to show up and remove the stuff yourself. So I stopped all bidding and went to bed. I ended up winning 2 tv’s that I’m still not sure why I even bid on them, and a retro looking 3 foot wide sign that says “Fisherman’s Paradise”.
Luckily it snowed the pickup day, so they moved it to Friday. So yesterday I drove east, almost to Philly, ripped the TV’s and sign off the wall and headed home.
There’s like 10 pending auctions all for restaurants that have gone out of business. There’s a bunch of high end commercial equipment for sale with what seem like great prices, but at some point there’s going to be so much used restaurant equipment for sale I can’t imagine it’ll be worth much. Who the hell is going to open a new restaurant these days?

Buy all the restaurant equipment you can store for a year if you can get it cheap. Restaurants will come back with a vengeance and they will all need equipment.
