Last week I sold a few domains at DropCatch auctions that are currently registered at Netfirms and Dotster. Now I’m having trouble transferring them to namebright because, according to the netfirms clown support, they can’t figure out how to do GDRP.
I should have expected this, the proportion of bad experiences to good with any domain.com reseller is way out of whack. I haven’t looked into the nuances of the GDRP regulations, but I’m not a fan at this point. The privacy pandemonium that’s been taking place seems out of control.
People basically bare their naked selves, physically and mentally online everyday and now their worried about privacy. If I want to be private with my domains I add privacy. Hell some registrars offer it for free. Maybe the domain solution should be free privacy if I want it, but I don’t.
Remember the “Al” Perkens story that we talked about a few years ago? The domainer that was buying domains that previously were sites, were unintentionally expired, sold at auction and then forwarding to porn. That guy stayed anonymous for years, with people actively looking for him, with intentions of murder.
My point is that there is some personal responsibility if you desire privacy. My second point is, fine implement whatever crazy ass regulations you want, just make sure you don’t burn down the whole system, because I need to transfer domains without talking to netfirms support.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
Aquarela is certainly an interesting name, currently sitting around $200…sure it will go much much higher, it means watercolour in Portuguese.
A quick Google turned up a bunch of trademarks from clothing to food, it looks like the domain name itself used to be used by an small web design company, and prior to that a Brazilian dance group.
I agree with you in terms of the GDPR. I think the PR part should stand for Personal Responsibility, which many people don’t want to take. I have like 20 websites, and I had to write up a privacy policy and cookie policy for all of them. What a pain in the ass.
Josh, how do you sell your domain names on dropcatch anyways? I reached out to their support about it, and they told me it was in beta and would add me to a list if it goes live for the public?
Hey Tom – it is currently in beta as they are still working out some of the kinks with it, and trying to see what works best. They allow some of us to sell during the beta period so that they have data to evaluate.
I had a problem a few days ago at netfirms where I couldn’t get auth codes. It was giving me an error message. I needed them so that I could list at Dropcatch, and they are also in the grace period so I needed them quick. I got an email back from their support saying they were having problems and I would hear back from them as soon as it is fixed. That was three or four days ago. I expect to get even more of this same email going forward even though I checked yesterday, and it is working for me now. I would rather have my names at network solutions, and that is saying something…
