The screenshots below are examples of buyers of domains from the past few months that have either developed their sites, or purchased an upgrade domain and have redirected their acquisition to an existing website.
Visionable.com sold for $7,900 on Sedo. The name went to a UK company named Visionable. They develop “the first video collaboration platform designed especially for healthcare teams’ advanced clinical needs“. It’s a nice name for a video based collaboration platform, but you have to wonder if they named the company after finding an affordable domain with the word vision in it. It seems like a dictionary word, but it isn’t. Their development stage name was IOCOM.
PopupVR.com sold for $2,500 on Sedo. The name redirects to a game developer called BeatShapers at beatshapers.com. They develop for multiple platforms, and they develop VR games so I guess they have a plan for something called PopupVR. I have never heard the term before.
FBdev.com sold for $10,000 as reported by DomainMarket. It is now the home of Fontainebleau Development, and in my opinion, it was a good choice to make the change from fontainebleau.com. There aren’t many people without that last name that know how to spell it. The previous domain owner had to think that this name would sell to Facebook or to a company involved in Facebook development when they acquired it.
IconPro.com sold for $2,500 at Sedo. You would think this name would have sold to someone doing something with icons, but it didn’t. It sold to a German start-up that focuses on “development and application of process mining software to analyze or correlate production process and quality data with machine learning“.
3dClick.com sold for $3,420 on Sedo. This might be the first domain I’ve seen that redirects to a .click domain at 3dclick.click. I never thought how valuable dot click names might be to companies with the word click in their name. 😉 3D Click is located in Barcelona, Spain, and their business focus is on using 3D software prototype design in the packaging industry.
I thought it was interesting that there are two domains that are being used for purposes that didn’t come to mind initially (FBDev and Iconpro). For sure FB Dev was going to be about facebook developers and iconpro would be about icons … yet, here we are….
Me too – thanks for the comment. IconPro is easy enough to see, but FBdev was a really nice coincidence for the seller.
