Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday, January 5th, 2024

I recently started using the HootSuite App because I wanted to regularly publish to my @runner and @botany Instagram accounts as well as manage my Twitter accounts more easily. I can preset all my posts and let them roll. To show the power of a good handle, I’ve only posted 16 pictures on Runner and it has 7500 followers. I think I can get it to a million with some regular work. Once I can get it to a hundred or two hundred thousand followers I will turn in over to someone to manage.

It was definitely not easy setting up Instagram. Going through the Meta/Facebook connection was a horrible experience. One, in order to see analytics and to even post it has to be a business Insta account. It also has to be connected to a page on your Facebook. But you can only set up 3 pages on your Facebook (or so it said) So I set up their own Facebook pages and then a business page for Runner within.

I connect it to the Runner Instagram and instantly a message pops up. “Ian has claimed this page”. Ian was the previous owner of the page but this was a completely new page. The only thing I can think is it had him as the owner of the site so it assigned it to him. But it gave him full control of the page and the Insta and I couldn’t do anything about it.

After an hour of figuring out what to do I finally just canceled one of my pages on my main Facebook site. Something I didn’t want to do but I had to get it assigned to a new page. I wasn’t sure if it would even let me. So I went into my Insta sight. Took away rights to the new Facebook page. Went into my main Facebook and assigned it to Runner. It said I can’t do that because its already assigned. Shit.. Then a few seconds later it says “Would you like to switch it from that Facebook to this?” Boom. It was done. The only thing I didn’t like is how easily someone who stole a password could reassign the Insta account. Made me want to have 2Factor on my account.

Things should be much easier than this but Meta spends so much work keeping you in their sandbox that they make attaching to it from 3rd parties next to impossible. Or at least uncomfortable and frictionfull
