What drives you? If you looked at your life over the last decade or two you probably would find that what drives us changes over time. At some point it was probably money. Maybe most of the time. But what that money was for probably changed. First yourself, then a partner, and maybe the family. What the family needs it for could have moved for baby things, to school, to bigger car to bigger house to education. The big change comes when your drive move from needs to wants. Differentiating these is hard for some people. Knowing what you actually need and what you just want is a blurry line for most. The core driver is always acceptance, security, love, and keeping busy. While it may not seem like those are important, deep down its what most people need.
The transition for me of not needing the money and not driving me has led to better sales in domains. Early on $1000 was a big deal and if I got a decent offer I took it. Often leaving thousands on the table but I took the definite in exchange for the maybe. While I didn’t necessarily ever need it to live, I needed the money to buy more domains and make my portfolio better. I couldn’t do that without selling anything because I couldn’t sacrifice my paycheck. That was needed to pay bills and build up my family’s nest. Extra went back into the nursery to build that. I was always building and I needed cash flow. I took lower rates for that cash flow. I was driven by sales.
One thing I can say is I have never been envious of others. Portfolios, cars, houses or anything material. I’ve always felt I could achieve anything material I wanted. What I did get envious of were guys that were 6 foot 4 or a great head of hair. Things I couldn’t control or buy (I guess I can buy hair). Eventually I realized that you got what you got and you work from there. So my drive was always simply to be a better me. Across the board. Better husband, better Dad, better boss, better person, better athlete. I try and put in the work. I give myself credit for attendance, for effort. The results always come with work but not usually when you want or need them. They always take longer than you think. So that’s my driver…..for now. Keep improving. There will be a time when I don’t need to get better. My body or my mind is peaked. At that point it will be to hold what I got. I’ll let you know when I get there.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
