Since I got a dog I get it. The bond between your dog is hard to describe unless you have one. He’s by my side most of the day. He may love me because I feed him but the way he gets excited when I come in the door is unmatched. Every meeting is like I came home from war. He loves me unconditionally. I was visiting a friend last week and just him talking about the day he will lose his dog he teared up. I get it. I dread the day. Travis lost his dog after 16 years and I won’t put words in his mouth but I know he was devastated. Sure it’s an incredibly long life but doesn’t make it any easier. Might actually make it harder. The love grows stronger with time.
I went from “those people” to being one of those people. I change up my schedule for my dog. But it’s also changed me for the better. Hard to describe but you never feel alone. There’s always company. It’s also why it’s so hard when that’s no longer.
