Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday, October 21st, 2022

One of the hardest things to do is take profit. Our minds tell us we can make more. We don’t want to lose the big gains. It’s a true fact that you have to let the winners run to pay for all the losers. That’s in the official playbook. Especially in a game where 2% pays for the other 98% like in domains and NFTs. Yet you also have to sell assets to cover costs, put some money aside for opportunity, and secure some recoup on investment. Obviously the success level you have depends on how you manage all this. At times I have been excellent and others I have been stupid. When it comes to NFTs I’ve been as good as I’ve ever been. I have been taking profit at every “peak” and in 2022 those peaks were few. On paper I’ve probably lost $300K because in 2021 I bought several NFTs at peak and have sold them at 90% loss. Which is bad but its part of the “most are going to lose” thing . You have to make sure the winners are greater than the losers. You have to pay a very close attention to taxes because compared to domain investing which you may have hundreds of transactions. In crypto you have tens of thousands. And its not as simple as “I have money in the account so I must have made that amount”. All comes down to how you handled the sale and conversion. Don’t ask me what the right way is though. We are all figuring it out. Where I am going with this is you have to take some sales that are a little less than you hoped and definitely take a few sales that surprise you how well they’ve done.

I sold some $wool coin the other day. I put 5K into it at 3 cents and sold it at 7.4 cents. Time was 2 weeks. I absolutely think wool is going to go higher at some point but I also think it could go back to 2 cents for a minute. I sold 250K more that I get from the coin I paid .5cents for because 20K is a lot of money IRL and the smart thing is to bank it and use it wisely later. Last year was build assets, this year make them yield or take profits. As for domains, my goal is to make the portfolio better than it was when the year started. Easy if you don’t sell, more of a challenge if you sell a good name. I replaced MonkeyWrench.com that I sold for 45K with Encrypto that I paid 25% of that. I will add one more 10K name and call that a better than it started portfolio. After taxes I still get to keep a little. That’s today discussion of what I’m doing. Like to keep it open and honest. Have a great day and buy some names so we can keep writing and sharing

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links.
