Here’s my rules for a happy life. Its the rule of 7. I think you can successfully do 7 THINGS. More than that and one of them will fail or have as good of a result as you hope. This does not mean that many people can do more than this. I merely feel its an exception
Here is the point system that you add to get to 7
Spouse = 1 point
Each Child= 1 point
A Child Good at Sports= 1 point
Nanny = -1 point up to minus -3 points
Job= 1 point
Own your Own Business= 3 points
Hobby= 1 point
That’s it. That was my system. I owned a business with a wife and a child. That was 5 points. It allowed me to have 2 points worth of life. I chose running and domain investing/blogging as my other point . There was literally NO other time. My daughter was in travel sports and we had to get a nanny for a while to make it work. For a while we were living in -1 and things were suffering.
Again, I’m sure some people can manage many extra things but I believe most don’t realize other things are suffering. Thus half of couples divorce, have depression, kids all screwed up, shitty job. I would not say my life was about balance but it was about maximizing the time I had to make sure I could do all the things I needed to do and all the things I wanted to do. Both are important. Its also one of the reasons we had 1. We could have had two and would have liked to have two but life gives you what you get and we’re happy with what we got
