This is my yearly reminder to not wait to do the things you’ve always wanted to do. One year ago my in laws were driving home from visiting friends and were hit by a semi and my mother in law did not survive. They were finally getting around to seeing all the friends they wanted to see. They always had an excuse of needing to work to have enough money to get through retirement.
It’s been 3 years since my Dad got an infection that spread to his heart and he went into cardiac arrest. He was on a balloon pump. I don’t know how he survived but did. He decided to spend more time in Florida and hang with his friends. He almost didn’t get that chance.
I am not telling you to drop what you’re doing or quit your job and go travel and have fun. But I am telling you that if you push too many things off you will have regrets. Some things require your youth to do. Life can throw some tough things at you that may shorten your time frame of chances. Having to watch your budget because you lived into the 90s is a good thing. Having a year that you don’t save much because you went and took some amazing trips with your family is ok. You’ll survive and those trips will be lasting memories.
So when that friend calls today and you feel you are busy, take the call. Work your ass off so you can go play. If you don’t include the play part I’m not sure why you are working. Last time I went to a funeral I don’t remember anyone standing up to tell everyone how hard they worked. They tell stories about their relationship. Make sure to keep building up those relationships and memories.
