Twenty six years ago when I started the retail division of the nursery we did $70,000 in sales. I made $18,000 and I paid another person $15,000 and the rest went to product. If it wasn’t for the landscape division we definitely would have lost money and not have been able to stay open very long. Fast forward 26 years and we do that in one day. We’re approaching 5 million in retail and have 35 employees. You hear all my talk about domains and monkeys but the reality is I am a nursery owner and that’s really what I do. All this other stuff is for play. I live in the midwest where the cost of living is minimal. I live like a king. Adam Strong knows what I’m talking about. He too has enough money he could live anywhere but knows that Central Illinois is a great place to raise a family and be with family. And it allows you to live on modest sums while you try and build your dreams. For me it was building a nursery. Having a wife with a good job is the secret sauce in most male entrepreneurs success story.
So while I am having a hell of a time with NFTs right now, I have just as much fun with domains, and just as much fun with stocks and options, and as much fun with my honey, and as much fun running. But those are all secondary to building the nursery. Because its way bigger than me now. 35 families rely on me making it great. It will be there way after I’m gone. They may not know my name but the town will know the nursery. That’s a legacy that transcends apes and domain sales. In 30 years nobody will remember I sold a domain for a million dollars. But they will visit the nursery that we created. My face will be on the timeline. My handprints in the cement of the bridge we built on the property. When you get enough money you will move to your legacy. Switching from how to make more money to how to help others and how to leave the world better when you’re gone than when you got there. In my case its creating a place to buy beautiful plants and a place of employment that treats them well and gives them a nice living. That’s what I really do. Everything else I write about is for shits and giggles.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
This is one of the reasons I follow DSAD .
Thanks for the giggles.
Hi Shane ,
Thanks for the daily effort of putting this together.
As a new domain investor. Do you believe in .GG ?
I’ve noticed some NFT projects have started using the extension.
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
Rob
I do like .gg. Have to make sure they are very good one word though
