I probably have talked about this some time in the last 12 years of blogging here but its about uncomfortable. People think training for something is about building. Building lung capacity, muscle strength, etc. That is true. Getting your body to the right weight to muscle ration for your event is definitely important. But even more is teaching your body that what you are doing is not going to kill you.
Your body is made to protect you. If it feels you are doing something that is going to hurt you it goes into protection mode. Legs hurting, fill them with lactic acid so you have trouble moving. Too much on your lungs. Dizzy should stop you. No? OK I’ll make you pass out so you will stop. Breathing, tired legs, whatever it takes to make you stop.
So how do you get around it. You inch a little into uncomfortable. Pushing it just a little so your body experiences the pain and suffering but then you pull back. It has to be very very small amounts. It takes a long time to make big gains. It takes patience. But every week you go a little further, a little faster, a little more weight. Your body will remember you’ve done that and knows that you didn’t die so it will allow it. It takes off the governor. If you continue to do this for years you will be able to do things that seemed impossible. That bag of excuses is in your mind. I hear them from so many people. “I have a bad x” “I haven’t been able to do X because of an injury I had” All untrue.
I’ve seen people with back pain, terrible knees put tons of hours into rehab and do amazing things. No meniscus? You can bike like a Tour de France cyclist. Bad back? Swim. Swimming has no impact. If you don’t want to do something that is absolutely fine. But it’s not a can’t thing. It’s merely you have other things in life that are more important. And the realization is people don’t want to suffer or be sore. Why would you add that to your life? I know the answer but I have no vested interest in trying to convince someone why.
What I can help with is if somebody wants to try something I can help guide them. I am definitely not an expert in athletics and training but I’ve met enough people over my life I can definitely steer you towards the experts. And of course consult a doctor before you do anything. I run with 5 of thems. Some in sports medicine. I also do a full blood panel twice a year to make sure my levels are good and that I don’t need to add something or take something away. Your body doesn’t lie. But your mind does

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
If you haven’t yet, it talks about just that in great details and an amazing book all-around.
