Over the years I’ve become pretty good at building teams and companies. But all my businesses have been selling other people’s products in the beginning and then filling with my own. Always having the other products available to fill demand when ours ran out. But Beehouse has been a whole other beast. Fulfilling online is new to me. We’ve done it on a small scale but not the extent that Beehouse is. I also have never packaged food. Literally every step was done by myself and Rachel our designer. I got pretty much everything wrong at some point.
Bottle, UPC, lids, seals, pouring, packaging, delivery, all of it was changed from original design. And its still evolving. Getting product has been extremely difficult. Honey is in high demand and easy to sell so nobody wants to sell the excess. Add in that I’m particular about what honey we sell and its taking a lot of work to keep the store stocked and also getting thousands of bottles ready for Christmas. But I think I’ve got it. Everything but the supply part but honey season is coming up and I’m saving profits to buy inventory and as soon as the first frame pull comes I’ll start traveling to negotiate and taste. The fun part of the business.
Because of the success of Beehouse I’ll be building Coleus.com. I think we can do $50-100K in sales the first year and do 100% growth for several years to follow. This won’t have a supply issue. We are great at growing and have a great supply of varieties. Just a matter of getting the packaging and shipping down to make sure those great plants arrive great plants. We’ll be testing shipping methods here this month. I’ll be using my Beehouse experience to make this one smoother.
