Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023

I had a dinner with about 20 people on Saturday and spent the entire dinner telling people how to use ChatGPT for basic daily use. Most people still have no idea how they can use it to become more productive. Almost every single one of them said “I prefer to do it myself” and then I showed them a few things it would do. One I helped them finish an email. I gave another idea on how to save money when they go to Nashville. Teaching them how to use it was the key. Once they know how to get on the site. How to prompt. Setting up the ease of use seemed to be the key. Once they saw what it could do they were hooked. I showed them how to use it to make graphics or photos. The general reaction was just shaking their head and saying “This is scary”. My answer was its opportunity. Everyone you work with or know will be using it to be more productive and to not take advantage of something that is at your fingertips and cheap is silly.

My favorite instruction is always with new students. In soccer, I love the 8-10 year olds. They are past everyone chasing the ball stage and are eager to learn and are so raw. It was the same with AI at this dinner. It started with a group that had no interest in learning and by the end of the meal they all couldn’t wait to get home and use it. It got me excited to go home and become better with AI. Love that excitement of having a new toy/skill

And for those that like a more polished GPT version

On Saturday evening, I had the pleasure of joining a dinner gathering comprising around 20 individuals. Throughout the course of the dinner, my focus was dedicated to enlightening everyone on the practical applications of ChatGPT for their everyday needs. Despite my efforts, it was evident that many were still unaware of the ways in which this tool could enhance their productivity. An overwhelming majority expressed their inclination toward manual tasks, uttering phrases like “I’d rather tackle it on my own.” In response, I proceeded to demonstrate a few functions that ChatGPT could perform.

On one occasion, I assisted someone in crafting a well-rounded email. On another, I shared innovative ideas to save money during their upcoming trip to Nashville. The crux of the matter lay in imparting the knowledge of effective utilization. Once they grasped the mechanics of accessing the platform and structuring prompts, the path to seamless interaction became apparent. Witnessing the potential of ChatGPT unfold before their eyes, their initial skepticism transformed into genuine intrigue.

Additionally, I showcased how this tool could aid in graphic design and photo manipulation. The reaction from the attendees was a mix of head-shaking astonishment accompanied by comments like “this is both fascinating and unsettling.” In response, I reassured them that these capabilities represent opportunities rather than sources of fear. I emphasized that in an era where productivity is paramount, neglecting a readily available and cost-effective resource would be counterproductive.

As someone who relishes teaching, one of my favorite contexts is working with fresh minds, particularly in the realm of soccer. The age group of 8 to 10-year-olds holds a special place in my heart. Their transition from the chaotic ball-chasing phase to their eagerness to learn mirrors the experience I had at the dinner with ChatGPT. Initially met with lukewarm interest, the dinner participants gradually evolved, their curiosity piqued. By the conclusion of the meal, a unanimous eagerness to return home and engage with ChatGPT had taken root.

This dinner event ignited a personal surge of excitement—an anticipation akin to acquiring a new toy or honing a new skill. The prospect of enhancing my proficiency with AI became all the more enthralling in light of the newfound enthusiasm I had witnessed.
