I was telling friends yesterday that in order for decentralization to work for businesses and non tech people they are going to have to be managed and helped by centralized companies. For instance, the ONLY reason crypto is as popular as it is, is due to centralized companies like CoinBase, Gemini, and Binance providing them the safety and trust they are looking for. I know its hard to hear but 99% of people could care less about decentralization. They just want secure, easy to use, and inexpensive as possible. They are usually willing to give up the 3rd for the first two in the short term. I don’t think this is any different for domains. The only way decentralized domains are successful is if a centralized company provides the backbone to use it. At that point it becomes just like crypto. Underlying is decentralized with the housing and structure centralized. Which makes the whole thing centralized (because any part centralized is a roadblock to complete freedom) .
And just like crypto, the real money to be made is selling the picks and shovel to the miners. All that being said there certainly is money to be made. The people you want to follow and take the ride with are Steve and Mike from Park.io. They have started with “Forever Domains” but there will be much more utility down the road. For me, the timeframe isn’t there or the opportunity costs. I have so many blockchain projects laying in front of me that are very profitable. Things I share, things I don’t. I encourage everyone to find theirs. HNS, yield farming, buying nodes, NFTs, even just owning names that are good for the mentioned projects. Just make sure you have some exposure. If not you are missing an opportunity of a lifetime. We are very early in all of this. Like domains, what seems late will be looked at in the future as the pioneers.
