I’ve talke about this a few times lately but its been super fascinating from a health standpoint. So since I tore my meniscus I have been going to the gym instead. With me not working at the nursery I won’t be getting the daily calorie burn of all the physical work and walking that I’m used to. Add in the knee and not being able to run it yields another issue. I was actually running on it and then I took it too far and it started hurting again so I am doing it right this time and will take a couple months off from running. Thus the gym. I actually thought I would have to watch my diet but I figured out a few things.
One, lifting weights burns a ton of calories. It also seems like the burn continues throughout the day. Two, I am taking athletic greens, creatine, and switching up drinking Diet Coke all day to tea. All those keep my full and I eat way less than I did at the nursery. I was always grabbing a snack there. At home I have leftovers from dinner from lunch and essentially nothing else all day. The result is I’m not getting fat. But there is a problem. All the weightlifting has my body looking like I’m training for a role in a new Marvel movie. It has been crazy how my body morphed. In 2 months I’ve added 15lbs of muscle. Horrible for running but way better for the beach. I’m hoping the muscle will make my running better with all the new core and hip strenth but carrying around these big arms and chest is like having a 20lb backpack I didn’t have. I’ll have to figure something out. One I won’t be on creatine so that water weight will drop. And I’ll continue to lift and run and I should shed every ounce of fat left to cut a little more weight
One thing I’ll add is I feel amazing. Healthiest I’ve felt. Doesn’t mean I don’t have something growing in me or I’m healthy but it does mean I am better prepared to face things health wise should they so arise. Fat is a bad fighter. I think the stress of the nursery and me getting great sleep also helps. All in all retirement has been great for my health. Some may just stop and take it all in. Not my style. Just more time for more things. Now on to the names
