Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, July 21st, 2021

My Mom is visiting me and she said that nobody ever comments on my blog. I told here that its not really a commenting type of post each day. And I don’t do a great job getting to the comments. But today I want to try something. A Q and A. Ask me ANY question in the comments and I’ll answer it. Any. Plants, NFTs, what I had for breakfast. Value of a domain. Anything. I start by asking myself a question

What’s your favorite movie?

Apocalypto

The cinematography, the story, the pace of the film. All so good.

      1. Why do you regret selling ethical.com? Do you now feel like you sold it too cheap (I don’t know what you sold it for…) or do you just miss owning it?

  1. Just dropping by to say hi to your mom!

I do read most of Shane’s posts, even if I don’t comment too often.

    Have a great day, cheers.

  2. Thanks Samit

    Paul,

I think that a good life is a life that balances being happy and the obligations to yourself , your family, your friends , and to your God

  3. What do you look for when buying NFTs? You seem to have the magic touch. Is it look, community, or total luck?

    1. Bar,

I start with makes me laugh, smile, or exude something. I also like to see talent but creativity will often trump that in art. If its cheap I buy. If its more than .25 eth, I want to see others enjoying it so I know there may be a market. To make money you have to be early. That doesn’t mean first day but if you’re not you can tie up a ton of money.

    1. I haven’t been outside the airport since 1984 when I played on a traveling soccer/football club from the US. Loved London but really too young to appreciate anything. And I’ve been to the airport a dozen times but never stayed. In short, I need to spend more time there.

    1. First year. Your heart hurts
Second year. You miss them but technology lets you talk and see them every day so its not so bad. Want her to stay as long as she can when she’s home
Third year. Love having her home but after a few weeks you realize that she’s now an adult and you’re a stopping place
Fourth year. Vacations and come home a couple of years is good. The love is all there but now independent lives

My wife were together 5 years before kids so our relationship is strong. She’s my best friend. I know she’s lonelier without her daughter. She was everything to my wife. But she talks to her almost every day so its as if they are still a pair, just not tucking her in. The first year I actually took it much harder than my wife. My wife and I are better than ever. Almost every fight you have is over the kids. Very few now, maybe what to get for dinner and that’s it.

      1. And BTW…my daughter just graduated college. She is a computer and data scientist. Hired immediately by an intl biotech pharma company. 22 yrs old with a 105k p/yr starting salary. I’m so proud of her. The hard work and great grades were worth it.

      2. David,

Congrats. She’s in the perfect field and its a field that needs more women. She’s going to make a lot more than that soon

      3. My wife just read what you wrote and it brought her to tears…literally. The part about your wife having been a bit lonely with your daughter gone. I made her laugh and it’s all good. All the best!

    1. Not this year. She lives there year round now in a house so I just go there to see her. She’s been coming to see us more than we go there.

  4. Shane, I need to encourage a tree to turn back away from the house. It’s an Eastern Redbud, about 8 yrs old, with a circumference of 12″. Can I notch the backside of it and pull it in that direction without doing any real damage to the tree? Thanks.

    1. Mike,

You can stake and pull branches without harming the tree. But you can’t notch it. You just need to pull the top of the tree. Don’t pull too hard and break it though. Just get a rope on the leader or top brand and bring it where you want. Redbuds have lots of movement in their branches anyway so a sway at the top won’t look odd. Give it 6 months or so and you can take the stake off. It will stay how you pulled it

    1. I’m a Big Island Hawaii guy but I love seeing new places. Would love to go to Vietnam, Laos, and Asia in general. But as a base its Hawaii

  5. Justo want to say hi and thank you for keep posting after all these years. I have learned a lot from your blog.

    1. She’s actually headed to Kentucky for a few days so she’s not here to ask but despite the bad ending (the got divorced when I was in college) I’m pretty sure there were some good times in there somewhere

  6. Hi Shane – Your positive energy and outlook is inspirational! What do you do everyday to maintain such a high energy level and PMA (positive mental attitude)? Cheers, Carl

    1. Carl,

Thank you so much. I am human so I have bad days but I really do enjoy every day. I can’t think of any day ever in my life where I didn’t smile or laugh at least once during the day. My wife makes me laugh every day and I do my best too reciprocate. As far as energy, I work hard at it. I watch my diet, I run a lot, I use a Garmin watch and an Oura ring to make sure I get the best sleep I can. I do a lot of blood work to check my levels to see if there is anything I need to take or do to keep healthy. And then, surround yourself with positivity and you’ll have more drive every day

      1. Thanks Shane for your great advice! I talked with Garmin today, and the representative suggested the Garmin Forerunner 245 model (which has the same sleep tracking features as the 745 and 945). I will be ordering that and the Oura ring today, as I really want to improve the quality of my sleep! Cheers, Carl

  7. Okay, plant question from me! What the best houseplant for someone like me that isn’t great at remembering to water/goes away on long trips? Note: also needs to be non-toxic to cats.

    1. I would get a succulent type plant or a monstera. There are some cool agave that you hardly ever have to water. And monstera are just super easy to grow. You can go away for weeks and just put a 2 liter watering drip water bottle on it. Maybe even a month.
