Let’s talk Ozempic and Ozempic like drugs.
In 2023, the combined ad spend for Ozempic, Rybelsus, and Wegovy, along with Boehringer Ingelheim’s diabetes drug Jardiance, reached $491 million, marking a 21% increase from $405 million in 2022. These drugs accounted for about 73% of the total advertising expenditure in their category, with Ozempic and Rybelsus alone spending $245 million on ads. They now represent 51% of all ad spending on news programs
Ozempic’s advertising budget for online video platforms surged by over 1,000% in 2023, though its TV ad spend decreased by 23% year-over-year. Wegovy also dedicated 96% of its advertising budget to online video, reflecting the shift towards digital platforms for these campaigns.
We’ve not seen anything of this magnitude since cigarette spending. The company behind Ozempic has overnight become one of the most valuable companies in the world with 65% of their sales coming from the US. They’re not even a US company.
TLDR: The US is a goldmine of fat people
