One of the most wonderful advancements we’ve had in science is in our ancestry. Our DNA now can tell us EXACTLY who we are related to and take us back centuries. Many questions have been answered and many stories proved incorrect. I am sure I am not the only one who this has ever happened to, but a person who we thought was a direct relative turned out to not be the father. It doesn’t mean they weren’t Dad, just meant that genetically they shared no traits. No, it wasn’t my father. If you saw us walk next to each other you would know immediately he’s where I got my genetics.
I’ve also had people reach out to me who say they are related because we had a match on ancestry and their trail and my Bible of our family don’t match. When I ask some family members who this was nobody really knew. Not an easy question. Like I said, I imagine many families are finding out Dads aren’t Dads and uncles are uncles. It’s great from a health standpoint but probably hard on some families. Other than health it really didn’t matter. All that mattered was who loved you. Although I can imagine for many having people not tell you the truth after you’ve become an adult is probably pretty difficult. Sets in the “is anything the truth” thoughts. I guess this is true for all stories that aren’t truth. The incredible amount of data we have will tell you what is true and what isn’t. Not going to be as fun telling stories in the future 😀
