I enjoy talking to business owners about their experiences. Tonight, I met my friend for happy hour at a Mexican restaurant that opened about two months ago in a fairly popular spot here in the suburbs of DFW. It turns out that the owner of the previous restaurant (Mexican themed) spent over a year and an unknown amount of money to renovate the same spot and reopen as a new (also Mexican themed) restaurant. I talked to the owner for a while, and I asked him how things were going. It turns out that he was unhappy with the previous customer base, because his restaurant turned into a spot where adults came to drink margaritas while their kids ran wild around the establishment. On top of that, it was a place where people realized the portions were large and decided to order one meal of fajitas and split it among five adults. To be blunt, they weren’t making money. He revamped the restaurant, put in a large bar to let people know that it is an adult oriented restaurant and raised prices on most items so that they could turn a profit. It will be interesting to see how things turn out. I didn’t see a single kid (which was nice for me), but there were barely any other customers either. The owner feels like they are in a rebuilding stage where they drove off all of the previous paying customers with kids, and they are now trying to build a new customer base of people who live in the suburbs and want to spend money at a Mexican restaurant without their kids. The drinks were good, but I don’t expect it to last long… Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on.
