Had a great time in Vegas. One of the biggest things I took away from the week is that we all have things we are dealing with. I don’t necessarily mean terrible things, just life. Kids are a lot of work. We are Uber drivers to all their events or, if they are younger, they require a bit more attention. Our spouses have needs and responsibilities as well and need as much love and attention as we give our jobs. We have parents who are aging. Mix in the ups and downs of domain sales and you have a life that hundreds of millions of people have, with a job that only thousands do.
It’s why sitting down and talking about how this all works together to form our lives is refreshing and invigorating. At times it is inspiring. You see what’s possible or you get affirmation that you are heading in the right direction. Some people are my mentors and I am that to others. Some are where we all want to be and others are who we once were. I saw very little bragging but a lot of people who were proud, as they should be.
The most common personality was the person who wants to do better. Everyone was looking for ideas and process to make them better domain investors. There are very few secrets left in how to do this, but there are millions of great reminders of what we should be doing. Much of it comes down to financial resources. Those resources either come from sales or out of your pocket, and we are all working toward the former. I was proud of so many people because I’ve been in this long enough to remember when they hadn’t yet had a million dollar sale.
There is no better way to sharpen your skills than sitting down with your peers after dinner and talking shop. No amount of social posts or Zoom meetings can compete with the master class of personal conversation. But it’s more than your skill set in domains. It’s your skills in life. We shared family stories and personal health experiences. When these come from people you respect, it improves your life and your mental health.
I can’t say enough about these types of events. Each one I leave a little tired, but smarter and better prepared for the year ahead.
Tony aka TonyNames on X couldn’t have done a better job of recapping the conference. Here is his post
