Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Monday, June 1st, 2026

There are two types of people. When you give someone a gift and they already have something similar, the first type of person tells you how they already have a better one and goes on and on about why it’s better. The second type of person simply thanks you. They tell you all the good things about that gift, explain why it’s a great present, and genuinely show appreciation and gratitude.

Recently, I put out a post about having a slow May. Between X and my emails, every single response was someone telling me how they had a great month. It was nothing but bragging. There were no insights as to why it was good, what they thought may have led to it, or anything remotely helpful. It felt like they were merely rubbing it in that my month was bad and theirs was good.

I also got into an argument on X with someone about a tool on I thought was good for domain investors. It’s a tool by Unstoppable Domains that lets you search for domains similar to what is already in your portfolio. Person X argued that most domain investors’ portfolios are bad, so you shouldn’t want to mimic what you haven’t sold, only what you have sold.

I pushed back. While that might be true for some, most domain investors have specific categories they specialize in and have found success with. Saving time finding more domains in those categories is genuinely helpful. If we start every conversation with, “You’re a bad investor, so stop doing what you’re doing,” we get absolutely nowhere. That’s an entirely different discussion.

You can probably tell that one of my biggest pet peeves is people who feel they are on this earth just to “protect” others. Anyone who understands psychology, human nature, or has raised a child knows that “don’t do that” is literally the worst way to help people. It flat-out does not work.

Instead, you lead by showing things that do work and explaining why they have worked for you. You show positive results. You should never look for praise or gratitude, but rather show others that if you offer value first, more people will want to help you and partner with you.

Don’t get me wrong—I can be bad at all of the above, too. I am far too focused on myself sometimes, and I hate it. I keep transcripts of my meetings, but the only statistic I ever ask for is, “What percentage of this meeting did I speak?” I want to listen more than I talk.

When I or other people slip into “me, me, me” mode, it usually means we don’t feel we are getting the praise or love we need. It’s psychological. Now, when I see people who are constantly criticizing others and propping themselves up, I realize it’s because they don’t have a support network telling them they are valued. I am trying to be part of the network that builds others up, in whatever ways are needed. Ultimately, the goal is always to ensure the other person walks away feeling good about themselves.

  1. Hey Shane,
    Domain sales have been somewhat lower for the past 30-45 days for the vast majority of domain investors (without going into the ultra-premium 6-7 figure market);
    The downturn is across the board and linked with various causes (seasonality, taxes, unrest in the Middle East, rising transport costs etc.).
    There will probably be a soft turning point in June 🙂
