Domain Sales Is Great But They’ve Just Given Me The Worst Parking Day in History

I’m going to start off by saying I do love the Domain Name Sales platform.  It’s well thought out and the payouts are normally fine.  I think I agree that they probably throttle up new account percentages and then back them off in time but I can’t prove it, and there’s nothing we could do anyway as nobody is told what percentage they get.  Regardless, I’m happy with what I get so I’ve kept a high percentage of my names there.  But the other day something crazy happened.  Take a look

So I had roughly 250 visitors to the names, 28 clicks for a total of zero. Wait. What? Zero? I realize many of my names have low click rates but I’ve never had them so bad I wasn’t even paid. As a matter of fact I have never had a day of zero EVER. I haven’t reached out to DNS because my portfolio is so small and my revenue so tiny that paying someone to answer my question may actually make them lose money for the month on my account. I admit this incredible “payday” did inspire me to start adjusting the keywords on the names to make them relate to what I feel the people are actually searching for. Just because they keywords in the domain may make the computers adjust, there are a few I know they are searching for something else. The first two days after the adjustment may daily takes went up $18 a day but on closer look the paying names weren’t even domains I changed. But a week later I have seen a few cents improvement. Of course when you get paid zero cents per click it’s not that hard to improve.

  1. I have this happen also Shane and then a day or two later an amount shows up. I will say though my parking income at DNS has gone down about half from what it was a year ago when I first got on board. A month or two ago they announced parking incomes should go up because of changes or improvements and my income cut in half, lol.

In fairness I am not to good at customizing keywords on my domains and I love their sales platform…

  2. I noticed lower rev’s as well but I think it may be due to something Frank mentioned on another site. “Browser Shaping”. I have noticed if I type in a domain name that leads to a parked page some internet providers send you to THEIR parked page!!! Dirty trick but I am not sure how to avoid/change it.

  3. Saturday and Sunday stats are updated on Monday, and until then displayed zero for me as well. They adjusted on Monday.

  4. “…start adjusting the keywords on the names to make them relate to what I feel the people are actually searching for.”

How do you accomplish this on DNS platform?

There are only 2 types of changes/edits I am aware of that can be made within the DNS platform that (in theory, could) “adjust the keywords” of your domain; including:

    1) Adjusting domain keyword capitalization [Edit –> CAPS]

E.g. WheelChairCushions.com –> WheelchairCushions.com; so in theory, your keywords change from:

~~ Wheel, Chair & Cushions; TO:
    ~~ Wheelchair & Cushions

    2) Selecting an alternate ‘template’ for your domain
E.g. for the domain HandicapBathroom.com, the DNS system might auto select the generic ‘bathroom’ template:
    ~~ Template Category: home improvement
    ~~ Sub-Category: kitchens/bathrooms

Whereas you might change the template to one that shows pictures associated with handicap equipment:
    ~~ Template Category: health
    ~~ Sub-Category: disabilities

BUT AFAIK, any changes you make to the domain/keyword ‘capitalization’ or to the ‘template’ selection have NO EFFECT on the actual ads that get displayed.

Is there another method that allows you to “adjust the keywords” of your domain (and which affects the ads that show)??

    Cheers,
    Steve

PS – you might want to do a quick re-read of the 2nd half of your article; as a few sentences don’t make sense (jumbled words?) …

“Just because they keywords in the domain may make the computers adjust, there are a few I know they are searching for something else. The first two days after the adjustment may daily takes went up $18 a day but on closer look the paying names weren’t even domains I changed.”

  5. Oops … my mistake Konstantinos … I meant to mentioned the “specific keyword” [checkbox] as part of #2 above (Selecting an alternate ‘template’).

So using my example in #2, changing the template for HandicapBathroom.com from

    ~~ Template Category: home improvement
    ~~ Sub-Category: kitchens/bathrooms

    TO:

    ~~ Template Category: health
    ~~ Sub-Category: disabilities

and checking the “specific keyword” [checkbox] would force the lander to show only show ‘keywords’ related to the Health/Disabilities category.

That’s how I understand it to work …

    ____

Is there any other way to influence the lander-page keywords that get displayed (and the eventual ads that get shown…)?

  6. Thanks so much for the kindness in spite of your lousy earnings day. Stats update later so your day may get better Shane.

To Mark’s comment: I appreciate how bad your revenue has gotten, however all of that is due to our upstream provider. As bad as your revenue is, that is how bad Frank’s owned and operated is. I have seen Frank forsake his own best interest in the name of the partners. Name sales are floating the boat though and doing very well.

Traffic should show some revenue lift in the next 40-60 days with the help of our upstreams.

  7. Steve, do you mean choosing an exact keyword? I don’t think so.
But by selecting the category and subcategory and checking/unchecking “specific keyword” you get what you want most of the time.

  8. Shane,
As said by others it will definitely be updated in a day or two. It happened with me as well for 30th and 31st Jan showed $0.00 and $0.01 but on 1st Feb both previous days got updated with normal earnings I do get on daily basis.

    @DNS
Thanks for the update. Hope to see the revenue going up in the next 40-60 days as you said.
