Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with recent data courtesy of DN Journal and historical data from NameBio.

Flips

  • Limpiaparabrisas.com – Sold recently for $3,175 at Sedo, vs $100 back in 2008 at Sedo. Spanish for wipers, as in windshield wipers, and the domain is redirected to a site that sells them, with a screenshot below – Scheibenwischer.com (which roughly translates from German to windshield wiper). The same company already owned the .org, and they control other related domains such as Autowischer.com (German for auto wiper), Wischerblatt.net (German for wiper blade), WiperShop.net, and many more.

Limpiaparabrisas

  • Trustify.com – Sold recently for $4,000 at Sedo, vs $553 in 2007 at Sedo. Domain is parked and under privacy protection. Hopefully it’s an upgrade for the rough domain of TrustifyMe.org, a provider of internet security services.

Flops

  • Caya.com – Sold recently for $4,999 at Sedo, vs $4,000 in 2008 at Afternic. Technically, they eeked out a gain here, but if I assume 15% commissions and 6 years of renewals, I’m going to call a $100-$200 profit over a 6 year hold a flop.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
