Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with recent data courtesy of DN Journal and historical data from NameBio.

Flips

  • SpaSupplies.com – Sold recently for $10,000 via FindYourDomain, vs $1,551 in 2010 at SnapNames. You can see the developed screenshot below. Appears to be an additional related website for the buyers — they also have the developed SpaAndEquipment.com and SkinAct.com, all three of which sell spa supplies, and are located at the same physical address in Los Angeles.

  • 5924.com – Sold recently for $8,000 at NameJet, vs $2,252 last year at Afternic. Another example of the rise of numerics, which Shane discussed recently in his look back at 2014, and look forward at 2015. Not surprisingly, it was picked up by a buyer in China — Hu Weishing, per Whois.
  • OZB.com – Sold recently for $11,800 at Sedo, vs $7,100 in 20007 at Sedo. The domain still shows in transfer at Sedo. Even with the “Z”, this price is far above the current minimum LLL.com pricing.

Flops

  • eNetwork.com – Sold recently for $15,500 at NameJet, vs $24,850 in 2013 at GoDaddy. Assuming 15% commissions, that’s nearly a 50% loss in under two years. Ouch. Currently owned by an individual in New York, per Whois, and no site resolves.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
