Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

PlumbersDirect.com sold for 5,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 230 USD on 2015-06-13 at GoDaddy. Excellent 18x return after commission in 7 months. No site is live yet, but it was picked up by a company named Aquion, “a manufacturer and marketer of premium water treatment equipment and water quality solutions that serve a variety of markets around the world.”

Nachos.com sold for 33,000 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 18,051 USD on 2015-01-28 at Flippa. Nice sale; this was already previously discussed as a profitable flip — prior to the $18k acquisition last year, the domain also sold for $10k back in 2008.

NVL.com sold for 25,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 12,600 USD on 2015-04-03 at Flippa. Love the double (before commission) in less than a year.

EvilEye.com sold for 5,500 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 2,749 USD on 2006-08-22 at SnapNames. Sold by Frank Schilling. Loads of search volume on this one, and the domain is an upgrade name for many existing sites.

WP7.com sold for 4,421 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 787 USD on 2014-01-13 at GoDaddy. Nice 5x return in two years; as an owner of CCC.com domains, I like to see these continue to go up in value.

YTGF.com sold for 2,125 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 125 USD on 2015-01-12 at GoDaddy. Sold exactly a year later, with a 14x return after commission. Heck of a year.

ExternalDrives.com sold for 1,200 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 450 USD on 2015-04-30 at GoDaddy. Not nearly the same type of return as YTFG above, but if you can replicate this type of return, you’ll be a happy camper.

Flops

RRRU.com sold for 2,200 USD recently at Sedo, vs 2,900 USD on 2015-12-21 at NameJet. Quick flips are easy, right? Less than a month hold.

Katie.com sold for 30,000 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 62,036 USD on 2008-06-24 at Sedo. Ouch, a loss of well over 50% of the value.

CMAS.com sold for 3,500 USD recently at NamesCon, vs 15,250 USD on 2007-01-17 at SnapNames. Double ouch. Over a $10k loss.

Brond.com sold for 905 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,500 USD on 2013-02-17 at Afternic. Maybe they thought they were buying brand.com, or blond.com…..brond doesn’t mean much to me.

ScratchMedia.com sold for 325 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,750 USD on 2015-07-08 at BuyDomains. I’m guesssing these guys forgot to renew their domain; they picked it up last year and probably planned on using it as an upgrade to their existing (and still live) site at ScratchMedia.tv, with a screenshot below. They’re a San Diego-based video production company; interestingly Scratch.Media is also developed, by an unrelated firm.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
