A reader asked me the other day to write about the tools that I use to search for names so I will. To be honest, it’s not a very exciting list of secret tools. I probably use less than most people so maybe Shane and Josh can write about the tools that they use as well. Shane has full access to most of them so he uses more than I do.
ExpiredDomains.net is by far the most useful tool you can find if you want to search for various GoDaddy marketplace names, pending delete names, Sedo auction names, Namejet and Snapnames lists and all of the other various marketplace lists. I consider it to be more of a toolbox than a tool, because you can do so much with it. I spend more time using ExpiredDomains.net than any other tool, and frankly, I could use only it and find plenty of names to buy. The site is free so sign up if you haven’t and start playing with the various filters you can use to narrow the lists into something manageable.
I use trademark247.com on a regular basis to search for existing trademarks on names I might want to purchase. I use Namebio.com and ShortNames.com every day to look at previous sales info for comparables to names I am interested in. To list for sale, I use Uniregistry market, Efty, Afternic, Sedo, BrandBucket, Brandpa, SquadHelp and have in the past used Flippa. For keeping track of everything I have, I wrote my own software that makes managing it all much easier.
Beyond all of this, it helps to have people in the industry that you know and trust and can bounce ideas off of and ask for opinions.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
Interesting to see that we are quite similar in the tools we use. Thanks, Travis.
