If you noticed I’ve been away for the last week. There has been a lot going on and I needed to be offline to take care of a few things. My father had some serious health issues that came completely unexpected and barely survived. He has, and seems to be getting better, but I’ve spent a lot of hours in the hospital. Add to that I was taking my daughter on a mountain climbing trip 4 days after it happened. I was so conflicted what to do. Stay with my Dad and miss on a special moment with my daughter, or go with my daughter and perhaps miss my final moments with my Dad. My heart hurt the entire time and felt like I was going to regret either decision. I talked to my Dad (he could only write at the time, not speak) my wife, and my friends. My Dad didn’t take us on trips very often and we didn’t get the bonding, special moment trips, growing up and its something he regretted. He didn’t want me to miss that trip. My friends and family said the same thing. So I went. But I only went after talking to the doctors who thought that he would definitely be there when I got back. He might not improve but he would be there. I also had friends and family there at his side the whole time. My wife took my spot and went every day. I only asked her to check up on him but she went for 3 hours or more a day every day I was gone. One of the most wonderful things she’s ever done for me.
I had no Internet connection for 4 days on the mountain so it was very difficult not knowing what was going on at home . The trade off was just me and my daughter having an amazing climb, sleeping in a tent on a glacier, and sharing a moment that we will remember forever. When we finally got cell service I found out that my Dad had improved and they took him off the heart assist and breathing tube and was actually eating and drinking. Still a bit groggy but getting stronger. There’s still a long road ahead but there is now a road. A road I’m now home to share with him. And I still got to share one with my daughter as well. Turned out about as well as I hoped.
The hardest part of the trip was not the mountain but the trip home. We got possibly the worst seats on a plane you could. Two kids behind us that screamed every word out of there mouth and kicked the seat for 5 hours. Parents not doing their job and acting like there was nobody on the plane except them. I was even hit in the head with a toy several times. My daughter is a chill person and she had enough. Had to turn around and say “NO” several times. The Mother did or said nothing. I completely understand the challenges of flying with children. I’ve been there. But this was total disregard for other passengers and I truly feel like they should have paid for my flight. They made it miserable by not understanding what was acceptable and not acceptable. Crying for ears hurting on decent is something we’re all ready for. An occasional kick in the back. All part of the draw. You get it. But 5 hours of it was crazy. And I had to pay to take part. And no, it was a full flight so not one seat available to switch. The whole time I just looked at pics of the trip, talked to my daughter, and thought of my Dad.
If I didn’t answer your emails or put up a name you needed on our list I’m back and back in the routine some what. I will have to spend more time at the nursery and several hours a day at the hospital so routine may not be the right word. Just give me a little more time to respond and a little more lead time if you are in Europe or Asia if you want a name up the next day. I still have a job to do, but my life and living it will always come before work and it did this week. Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on
