I stopped paying any real attention to news or current events a few months ago, so I was surprised when I went to a local gas station/convenience store yesterday.
I saw several signs that said “credit or exact change only” I assumed there was some new directive to limit the spread of covid by reducing the exchange of cash and coin, but the reason the cashier gave me was that the mints were shut down and not printing any money.
That still seems strange since the only place I’ve run into this was at a small central PA store. I briefly looked online and can’t find any articles about it, but admittedly I didn’t look that hard.
It’s hard to believe that there’s not enough currency floating around to make change.
