I Bought my plane ticket to Vegas last night. I used Kayak for the first time and it wasn’t too bad. I ended up buying flight “hacks” that connect 2 one way tickets together for the best price. I did pay extra for a better seat, the only seats available at the advertised rate were in the cargo area, another offer would have given me $30 off but I had to agree to serve drinks and polish shoes in first class for the entirety of the flight.
The thing that gets me with the airlines now is all the extra charges. When they list all the flights and prices you never know what the whole price is going to be until you get to the end. Some airlines let you check one bag for free, others charge $30 or more. If I don’t want to sit in a middle seat between 2 sumo wrestlers I have to pay more, food’s extra, drinks are extra. I like the old days when you bought the ticket and everything was included, a time when they served you a meal and the movie was free.
Seriously, how much extra does it cost to play a movie for everyone without charging for the headphones? The crappy meal that you got was something to look forward to, it helped set flight benchmarks. You could gauge how far into the flight you were by which meal or drink break you were on. I miss the simple days of flying, no 80 year old women getting cavity searched for contraband, food that’s included and bags that you check for free, because it’s normal to take shit with you when flying on an airplane.
Shane’s customer problem is something that I’ve had an idea on for awhile. I’ll pitch it and if anyone wants to build it out we can partner up. (I won’t pretend that I’m actually gonna do it myself) I have a friend that works in a restaurant that’s owned by a multinational company and the companies head quarters happen to be in the same building as the fine dining establishment. Like many restaurants the employees are powerless to do anything about customers that blatantly take advantage of the outdated and down right stupid saying “the customer is always right”. What a load of crap. Why would you want the worst people coming into your establishment time and time again? Theses people will repeatedly go from establishment to establishment eating the meal, complaining, and getting it comped. They complain about BS things, don’t tip, and make the lives of the employees and middle management difficult. The business suffers, these people take up seats and are cost negative overall. Fine dining establishment executives set policies that enable these people to do this.
It seems that these people are known to and can be identified by staff as they go around stealing food and services. My idea is to label bad customers as Shit Birds, and through ShitBirds.com, which I own, publicly identify them and mock them. Maybe we Geo the site, so for example you’d have central Pa Shit birds. The restaurants in that region would identify these bad customers and cross reference them with other establishments. After some sort of validation process they would have their picture posted and their MO for being a horrible customer. We could expand to any industry and force people to not be shit birds.
