Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
FCDO.com sold recently for 599 USD at NameJet, vs 145 USD on 2013-09-14 at NameJet. This name didn’t make the seller rich, but nearly 4x before commission is great if you can do it with a bunch of names. Whois shows “HU WEISHENG” as the owner, and he’s added it to his collection of over 25,000 other domains.
KDUI.com sold recently for 610 USD at GoDaddy, vs 155 USD on 2014-05-21 at GoDaddy. Similar 4x before commission as above.
InjuryLaywers.com recently sold for 1,712 USD at NameJet, vs 500 USD on 2014-05-24 at NameJet. Yes, a typo.
Innovate.org sold recently for 3,495 USD at Flippa, vs 1,722 USD on 2015-04-14 at NameJet. Another example of a profitable quick flip on Flippa…..less than a two month hold.
Flops
CAMQ.com sold recently for 605 USD at Flippa, vs 4,500 USD on 2012-04-11 at Afternic. The current site is NSFW, and their logo is to the right….the owners must already have a few “cam” sites.
TopTwenty.com sold recently for 1,427 USD at DropCatch, vs 15,000 USD on 2011-03-23 at Afternic. Someone paid $15k and then let it drop a couple years later?! I looked back at Archive.org, assuming their website failed, but only saw parked pages.
LookYoung.com sold recently for 3,150 USD at GoDaddy, vs 4,999 USD on 2013-10-06 at Afternic.
CarpetCleaning.us sold recently for 830 USD at GoDaddy, vs 8,500 USD on 2011-12-30 at Sedo. I once bought a couple .us domains and had a similar 90% loss. Thankfully I only spent a couple hundred dollars on them, not the $8,500 for CarpetCleaning.us.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
