Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

Hunstville.com sold for 2,051 USD recently at Sedo, vs 265 USD on 2017-03-01 at Flippa. The seller got a quick 6x return after commission. I wonder if the buyer knows they picked up a typo…..

DNA.cc sold for 15,500 USD recently at NameJet, vs 500 USD on 2005-03-08 at Afternic. Heck of a price….26x between these two public sales, after commission. Currently owned by a Chinese individual.

CHA.net sold for 20,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 6,988 USD on 2010-12-02 at NameJet. There must be a meaning that I’m not aware of. Currently owned by a Chinese individual.

499.org sold for 1,400 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,000 USD on 2016-12-21 at NameJet. Seller made about $200 on the most recent transaction. A prior owner lost about 30% on the domain, after I sold it on NameJet for about $1,200 in 2015. NameJet made money on all the transactions.

KitchenRemodelers.com sold for 1,710 USD recently at NameJet, vs 520 USD on 2016-11-05 at DropCatch. Nearly a triple after commission when buying on one domainer platform and selling on another, in under six months.

KeyInvest.com sold for 7,500 USD recently via Garage.ist, vs 415 USD on 2011-09-10 at NameJet. A London-based company has developed on the domain, and you can see a screenshot below. “KEYINVEST: Smart Money Management, a new world of financial opportunities giving you easy access to investments which offer market protection and high return.”

Flops

NDEX.com sold for 8,200 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 15,250 USD on 2010-07-09 at Moniker. A loss of about 50% after commission.

BusinessConsultants.com sold for 3,800 USD recently via Fabulous, vs 22,500 USD on 2008-04-16 at T.R.A.F.F.I.C.. That’s a big loss for someone in the past….nearly $20k. It appears that Elliot Silver picked this one up, and I’m pretty sure he won’t be selling it at a loss in the future.

Cheap.cc sold for 502 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,153 USD on 2016-03-30 at GoDaddy. Have .cc names peaked? I honestly don’t know the answer…..I’ve never owned one.

CannaJuice.com sold for 2,939 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 6,564 USD on 2016-03-31 at GoDaddy. Canna names are hot, but you still need to buy them at the right price.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
